Thanks for the "encouraging" words mr.fye.myopenid.com. You could try a more original nickname when commenting on my site. Anyway, the comment box should now be accessible.

Frontside is typically easier but I've gotten so much backside practice since living in Mexico that I'm now better on that side. It's even possible I've gotten slightly worse going frontside. I love them lefts!

mr.fye’s everything log

For a number of months they've been doing a bunch of work expanding the fenced area of the RV park toward the river in order to make more room for tent camping. They filled in a whole lot of rocks and sand on top of that. Then they put in retaining wall of neatly piled rocks. I hated the project since it got started because it blocked our shortest trail out to the river but recently that has been restored (possibly upgraded) and I'm okay with it. Still, I can't help but be entertained by the recent work nature did on the retaining wall. It's not gone but is sure is a lot less neatly piled. From what I can tell they weren't accounting for anything more than the river current, which is slowest near the edges and probably didn't move those rocks out of place. But once the river mouth is opened up real nice and a good swell comes through it basically sends waves into the river mouth to go break on to the retaining wall. Along with the rocks the waves pulled down a coconut tree that was growing along the river mouth.

I am a few days past my 27th birthday and it's been a good one. As of writing this I'm relaxing in my folks house in Arkansas. I was still in Mexico for the actual date of my birthday and while there was no huge celebration I did feel it was symbolically nice to start on a new age there. I ended up going out to see the latest Batman movie in the theater with my "adopted" Mexican nephew. After that we met up with his mom and sister and we all played a game of mini-golf and had some dinner. It was a fun evening and near the end of it I got an surprise present for my birthday. It was a stomach bug and it hit pretty hard. In a matter of an hour my energy level was low as if I'd been doing something strenuous all day and the food in my bowels was all magically converted into air and liquid. I was up four or five times through the night making trips to the bathroom and I didn't get much sleep. As luck would have it the next day was going to be filled with about nine hours of traveling in various forms of transportation so it was truly a timely gift. As I was getting ready the next morning I hardly felt I should even attempt traveling but I made the motions and got through it. It ended up being a bit miserable but the worst of the bug was apparently behind me and that was a lovely start to my 27th trip around the sun.

I rode my bicycle out to my usual surf break at the river this morning and I was treated with the sight of the river flowing, pushing it's brown sweet water out into the blue ocean. Of course, it needs time to really do its job and that's what I'm really looking forward to but nice to see it flowing all the same. The surf however was only so-so and as I arrived the first four folks were paddling back in because they'd seen a shark fin. I still ended up in the water but it was with a few other surfers who paddled out a bit south of there.
